Getting a stable reading

Tap at least eight beats along with the kick or with your foot. Current BPM follows your most recent taps while average BPM uses the median of the recent window, so one clumsy tap will not wreck the reading.

Stop for more than three seconds and the measurement resets itself for a clean start.

When to tap and when to analyse

Tapping is ideal for vinyl, rehearsals, videos or anything that is not a file. If you do have the audio file, the automatic detector is faster and does not depend on your hands.

Frequently asked questions

How many taps do I need?

Eight taps already give a solid reading; the more you tap, the steadier the average becomes.

Can I use the keyboard?

Yes — the space bar works exactly like the button.

Why do current and average BPM differ?

Current follows your latest taps, average smooths the whole window. Keep tapping until they converge.
