Changing tempo without detuning

Speed a file up and the pitch rises with it — instant chipmunk. The time-stretching used here cuts the audio into segments and rejoins them where the waveform matches, so the song changes speed while the pitch stays exactly where it was.

We detect the original BPM first; if we cannot do it confidently, you can type it in yourself.

How far you can stretch

Changes up to about 20% (120 to 100 or 140 BPM, say) sound natural. Past that you start to hear flamming and a metallic texture, especially on percussive material. That is the physical limit of the technique.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pitch change?

No. Pitch is preserved; only the speed changes.

What if the original BPM is not detected?

Type it in manually and the conversion works the same.

What format do I get?

Lossless WAV.

Can I use it to practise?

Yes — slowing a solo down without detuning it is one of the most common uses.
